Changing the oil and filter should be done between 3,000 miles and 7,000 miles.

Reminder: Remember, it is illegal to dispose of used motor oil improperly. Before doing this procedure, we recommend you find a local quick-lube place that will accept your dirty oil at no charge.

  1. Turn the car off and let it cool down.
  2. Raise the hood.
  3. Pull the dipstick and check the oil level and quality.
  4. Jack up the car
  5. Place drain pan under the oil drain plug.
  6. Using the socket or spanner, loosen up the oil drain plug and remove it completely with your gloved hand.
  7. Wait until the oil drains completely into the drain pan.
  8. Remove the oil filter by pulling the oil filter wrench towards the front of the car.
  9. Wipe out any excess oil around the surfaces where the old oil filter was.
  10. Install the new oil filter on the cleaned area rotating the bottom of the filter towards the back of the car and tighten the seal with the wrench where the engine meets. Make sure you put the oil plug back on.
  11. Add new four quarts of oil to your car.
  12. Test drive and check for leaks.
  13. Shut car off, remove and clean the dipstick then insert it again to check the oil level. The dipstick should give you a reading below the H line. If not let it settles for a few minutes and read it again. Add more oil accordingly without exceeding the H line but above the L line.
