[edit] Tools Needed
- Ramps, jack and jack stands, or lift
- Creeper (optional)
- Ratchet
- 10mm and 14mm socket
- Screwdriver
- Oil drain pan
- Oil filter wrench
[edit] Supplies Needed
- 5 quarts of oil
- New oil filter
- New oil plug washer
[edit] Instructions
- Warm up your vehicle, dirty oil comes out faster and easier when the oil is hot. However, be sure to allow a few minutes for oil to fully settle and drain internally after shutting it off. This will also help prevent burns from the hot oil.
- Loosen oil filler cap and pull out the oil dipstick, this will also speed up the flowing process.
- Jack up your car using an appropriate jack because the 350Z is a very low car. It's imperative that you apply the parking brake and block a rear wheel to prevent the car from rolling. Use jackstands to support the weight of the car (never depend on a jack, they can and do fail or slip!).
- Remove plastic panel that covers the bottom of the engine. It is held in place by screws and plastic clips.
- Remove the drain bolt and let the oil drain out completely in a suitable drainpan. Be careful not to burn yourself as the oil may be hot.
- Install the drain bolt and make sure you use a new copper drain plug gasket (Nissan uses a special copper drain plug that is around 2 mm thick, when you tighten the bolt, the washer thins out). You can get these at your Nissan Parts Counter for about $1 each. Tighten drain bolt at 29.4-39.2 NM or 22-28 FT-LB using a torque wrench.
- Remove oil filter using oil filter removal tool. You can buy one from Nissan, Part No. KV10115801, its just a simple oil filter wrench that fits perfectly on the oil filter. When installing the new filter apply some oil on the filter's O-ring. Tighten the oil filter at 14.7-20.5 NM or 11-15 FT-LB (Do not overtighten!).
- Wipe off visible oil on the filter and drain bolt area. Re-install plastic cover.
- Lower vehicle after clearing everything from underneath. Once lowered, remove wheel chock as long as vehicle parking brake is set.
- Add new oil , 4.7 liters (~5 quarts) of new engine oil (use a funnel, it helps). Start the engine and let it run for a couple minutes. Stop engine, check for leaks, and add additional oil if necessary until the oil level is centered (between low and high) on the dipstick.
